Beauty in simplicity is a core value in NIGHTTREE designs. Peter McLea tasks himself to create simple designs, yet keep the technology up to date and the lighting functions perfect. Elements in the designs often carry more than one function and thus the design can be simplified and create a clean timeless look. NIGHTTREE luminaires create a soft and inviting light with a beautiful ambiance and minimal glare. The designs are contemporary and simple with natural elements and would be at home in a wide variety of interiors. They have an easy user interface with an option for full control over the lighting so that the right mood can be set. User experience and interaction with a product are important to NIGHTTREE, whether it's the physical interaction of a light or the ability to change settings remotely. NIGHTTREE Design is mainly focused on creating luminaires with a wooden structure, but they also integrate other materials such as acrylic, Japanese shoji paper, porcelain, aluminum, and 3D printed parts. For example, the linear suspended light has an aluminum core that cannot be seen; this serves three purposes: to keep the long wooden lamp dead straight, to act as heat dissipation, and to provide a mounting point for the components. Currently, NIGHTTREE has many design ideas sitting on pieces of paper and in CAD drawings that all inspire each other and the next design. They have two finalised products: a suspended linear lamp that can be specified to a client's needs and an indoor portable table lamp. They soon hope to take on commissions for work that fits their design philosophy, either creating bespoke pieces or modifying current designs.
